In circa un terzo dei pazienti schizofrenici, l’esordio del disturbo avviene in eta preadolescenziale (Very Early Onset Schizophrenia; VEOS) e adolescenziale (Early Onset Schizophrenia; EOS). Le condizioni ad esordio precoce e molto precoce rappresentano forme piu severe e disabilitanti del disturbo schizofrenico, sia dal punto di vista clinico che neuropsicologico e neuroanatomico. In questi soggetti e stata infatti evidenziata una frequenza piu elevata di allucinazioni di tipo uditivo e bizzarrie comportamentali, nonche maggiore gravita della sintomatologia negativa associata ad un alto grado di disabilita e ritiro sociale. Sul piano neurocognitivo e stato inoltre rilevato un deterioramento addirittura antecedente l’esordio schizofrenico, che risulta particolarmente invalidante poiche avviene in un momento evolutivo critico, in cui fondamentali competenze neuropsicologiche e sociali sono ancora in fase di sviluppo. Di qui, la necessita di strutturare interventi precoci e integrati che tengano conto del profilo clinico e neuropsicologico specifico dell’esordio schizofrenico in eta evolutiva.;
