Thermal waters-Re-discovery and transformation - Water Tuscany Spa Hydrotherapy Sociability During the 18th century, in many European countries, there was a strong revival of hydrotherapy, or "taking the waters". There were several reasons for this revival: among them were the ‘Grand Tour’, a new interest in science, especially in medicine and in chemistry, and the decision of governments and ruling classes to promote tourism in the thermal resorts in their territory. The connection between medical practice, tourism and sociability produced a revolution not only in the diffusion of therapeutic thermal establishments, but also in the urbanistic aspect of thermal resorts: hotels, game - and dance-halls, walking and sporting places became a necessary complement.
