The authors have been part, since 1997, of an important community of street teachers within the Spanish Quarters of the city of Naples (Italy). They have built a second chance school, known throughout Europe as a "best practice" and have coped with adolescent drop-outs with whom they have worked at school-work transition and empowerment programs. Here they try to re-think of their experiences e re-name them, thanks to the encounter with theory, in particular with the categories of sociability and agency. Their experiences seem to show and teach that capacity building is possible and promising if it takes place together with the young people street teachers deal with within the complex context they both cope with. Voice and the capacity to aspire are essential parts of such a process. Policy builders should seriously consider this prospective. But do they?
