Focusing on Bologna, the residential strategy of foreign citizens turns out to be orientated toward a homogeneous presence throughout the municipal territory, as well as toward cohabitation of different groups in the same area. While this signalizes no ghettos and no “ethnical districts”, however the presence of very circumscribed zones with a huge concentration of non-Italian population is a matter of fact. This micro-realities are difficult to observe and demand qualitative research with ethnographic views. The present essay concentrates on the transformation of certain peripheral territories of Bologna in the light of the increasing migratory flows.
