On 29 November 2017, the EU Commission published its Communication on "the Future of Food and Farming". This document is enlightening for both figuring out the main axes of the CAP reform after 2020 and for understanding what its biggest challenges will be. Amongst the latter, the pursuit of environmental protec-tion in agricultural matters has been constantly present on the agenda of the EU policy-makers in the last 30 years, though with very few positive outcomes, as now also certified by the European court of Auditors in its opinion delivered on 12 De-cember 2017. On this point, the Communication clearly shows the will to promote a new "delivery model" which will leave Member States free to choose the means to achieve specific targets set at EU level. This contribution aims at unravelling the content of the Communication, so as to discuss its potential repercussions on the structure of the future CAP, as well as its adequacy to improve its environmental dimension.
Keywords: Cap, greening, delivery model, sustainable agriculture, agriculture and environment.
