The Corona crisis was a challenge for the German archives. However, they adapted their internal office communication as well as their specialized archival tasks to the pandemic conditions quite quickly and successfully. In particular, the professional work areas of preservation, use and mediation were restricted. After the pandemic was declared, archive users only gradually adjusted to replacing visits to the reading rooms with more intensive use of Internet services, more research requests and more orders for digital copies of archive materials. Event and publication offering were also moved to the web, social media opportunities were used more intensively, and special online events were offered. Overall, the Corona crisis has given German archives a noticeable digital boost.
