This essay delves into the ongoing conflict in Jerusalem by focusing on the metropolitan area and its transformation since the reunification of the city in 1967, when the Israeli army conquered East Jerusalem during the Six Day war. Despite the conspicuous political and material investment aimed at strengthening Israeli control on this area, the conflict gradually worsened over time. Jerusalem is today more than ever since 1967 a city fragmented city from the physical, economic, social and legal point of view. Still, this fragmentation does not prefigure a new partition of the city; the present developments represent a trend in continuity with the recent past of the conflict. As far as future can be anticipated, no changes in the present status quo seem to be in sight.
