The article analyzes the representation of the "subaltern" in studies carried out between the late 19th and the early 20th centuries by two of Cesare Lombroso’s pupils, Alfredo Niceforo and Scipio Sighele. The two works focus on Lombroso’s theories and devote a particular attention to psychological and cultural hierarchies.
