Filippo Barbera, Ewald Engelen, Angelo Salento, Karel Williams Il saggio illustra le coordinate concettuali di un progetto di ricerca internazionale il cui scopo e il consolidamento e la diffusione della prospettiva analitica nota come "economia fondamentale". Il focus principale del lavoro riguarda le conseguenze del processo di finanziarizzazione sulla produzione e distribuzione di quei beni e servizi che caratterizzano la vita quotidiana delle persone e/o che costituiscono l’infrastruttura di base per il godimento di una piena cittadinanza sociale. Tali conseguenze sono importanti per delineare maggiori o minori differenze tra i modelli di capitalismo. Il paper mette quindi in luce le tensioni create dal processo di liberalizzazione dell’economia e dalle privatizzazioni, da una parte, e il rapporto impresa-societa, dall’altra. Il pilastro alla base di tale tensione, viene sostenuto, si trova nella diffusione di una particolare concezione del valore, nota come point-value maximization. Secondo tale concezione, l’attivita economica e l’impresa si giustificano solo in relazione all’interesse di breve periodo degli shareholder, indipendentemente dalle implicazioni di lungo termine e dagli interessi di altri agenti coinvolti nell’attivita dell’impresa. L’alternativa, inoltre, non si esaurisce nella difesa nel modello stakeholder, ma individua nella "licenza sociale" un’alternativa applicativa e di policy. Nella sezione finale, si discutono alcune implicazioni generali della prospettiva adottata.
