In this paper, the story of a family with patient suffering from borderline personality disorder is analyzed and the complex relationships that bind some important family constructs - power, family myth, secret and transgenerational commitment - are highlighted. Is hypothesized that truth elusion, common feature of both myth and secret, may result, with the involvement at different titles of each component of the family, in a transgenerational totalizing commitment, sustained by a collusion. The analysis provides also evidence for the influence of social context in establishing and consolidating such a collusion.
