This essay analyzes the visions of Europe formulated by the Neapolitan elites between the end of the eighteenth century and the start of the nineteenth century, through the rebuilding of the political and cultural roots of the concept of the Neapolitan nation, which takes shape and is enhanced by its meaning thanks to the events of the Napoleonic Decade. The close confrontation and, at times, contamination between different ideologies and conflicting role models lead to original interpretations of romantic ideals and those ones inspired by the Risorgimento, solidifying local identities, constitutional ambitions and the push for the unification of the peninsula.
