The Author aims to verify the results of the analysis carried out by Massimo D’Antona in an article published ten years ago. In that article, Massimo D’Antona focused on the erosion of four traditional pillars used by scholars to build the labour law discipline in the second half of XX century, and asks himself how to build a new identity for this branch of legal studies. Those four pillars are: the sovereignty of single States, which has been eroded by international institutions; the organisation of big industrial firms, altered by outsourcing and delocalisation processes; the steadiness of life and work perspectives "from school to retirement pension"; the myth of traditional trade unions’ capacity to represent the working class.

Keywords: Traditional pillars; Erosion of labour law; Globalization; Outsourcing; Flexibility; Reformism in labour law
