The author remarks that depression’s theme gives a vivid picture of the complexity of the interplay between multiple factors determining the symptoms of the patient. It makes often difficult to identify what is the most involved system (biological, psychological, social) in the pathology. More and more, in fact, we notice that the systems involved are strictly interrelated and the problem becomes to identify how they influence each other. It is remarked too that systemic therapy focuses mostly on verbal and non verbal communication in the relationship and identifies the main origin of the problem in a communication trouble. In contrast to the changes in family therapy, the author believes that the relevance of the biological and psycological pathways in the development of the individuum, as component of the system, is too much underevaluated. Fast always the potential biological correlates are ignored. The author summarizes the neuropsychological findings about depression and their connections with genetic and environmental intertwining factors.
