The author describes the case of a young patient, adopted at the age of eight years old after a childhood marked by several traumatic events. The patient complained a mainly somatic symptomatology, with little awareness of his own emotional world. He showed the typical traits of alexythimia, with ideo-affective dissociation characterized by many memories of his childhood but accompanied by little or no emotional resonance. The psychotherapy lasted two years, and was interrupted by the patient. The article describes two patient’s dreams and some meaningful moments in the therapeutic relationship. It also set out some thoughts about the meaning, from the standpoint of psychotherapy, of memories related to childhood traumas.
