In this paper the authors present a model of family intervention in anorexia nervosa in adolescence and pre-adolescence developed by the Clinical Division of the Stella Maris Foundation Hospital devoted to the Eating Disorders in Childhood and Adolescence. The authors will use the Blos’theory of the second process of separation-individuation like a key to understand the psychopatological aspects of these disorders. The authors will describe the main features presented by the families at entry in the hospital and the strategies employed in order to help them to understand psychological and physical challenges inherent to the disorder. Moreover, will be discussed some techniques used to facilitate the representation and symbolization of the inner world of the patients and of their interpersonal relationships. The main goal of the psychotherapy, both familiar and individual, is to promote, within the system, the intersubjective skills of the adolescents. The text will be accompanied by appropriate clinical examples.
