The research presented in the volume Milano 1946. Alle origini della ricostruzione (edited by Gianfranco Pertot and Roberta Ramella) has grown up around the retrieval of the datasheets of the Censimento urbanistico of 1946, realized as basis to draft the Milan general development plan of 1948. Based on archival recognition and analysis of a large number of documents, mostly unpublished, the book retraces step by step the events that precede and follow the adoption of the plan, drawing a balance of the contribution of the different cultural and professional forces who were entrusted with the task of defining and guiding the reconstruction of the city. A failure on which the book offers new feedback. This text, in an ideal dialogue with the authors, probes some critical points in the municipal policies and planning from which the betrayal of the expectations of Reconstruction took shape.
