The author discusses Simona Argentieri’s paper highlighting the importance of reflection in terms of Freud’s metapsychology and theory of instincts. He emphasizes the importance of Freud’s concept of development, which is indispensable for explaining the shift towards "pre-genitality", polymorphous perversion, "neo-sexuality" (McDougall) as well as the importance of the concept of protective barrier against stimuli (Reizschutz, Freud) and of mental trauma. As a psychoanalyst who is also passionate about cinema and theater, while discussing the clin-ical case of the agoraphobic patient he embraces the analogical suggestion between the "fear of open space" and the anxiety of the lack of the "fourth wall”"on the stage.

Keywords: Metapsychology, pregenitality, separation anxiety, annihilation anxiety.
