The empirical outcome of a Likert scale is illustrated, showing how the prevalent dimension of the cognitive component is formed by the representation of foreigners defined by sociology (struggle, contamination, deviance, objectivity); minimizing these features makes perception of its role in change more visible. This trend confirms Moscovici’s theory, which states that the process of categorization is constituted by social representations that are aimed at classifying objects according to whether or not they conform to standards.
