The author describes the meaning of "dignity" according to the value acquired in the field of the employment relationships. This analysis uses the historical-comparative method searching the different legal dimension of dignity meant as a value or as a right because of the historical-social contexts and the settings of legal orders. This essay suggests an interpretation which tends to ascribe to dignity, in the Italian legal order, the role of unifying principle that crosses the whole working experience of the worker, by a complete protection of his contractual relationship. So, dignity has to be read, interpreted and guaranteed also within the frame of constitutional norms which join the individual feature of the value (artt. 2, 3, 35, 36, 41 Cost.) to the collective dimension of solidarity (artt. 39 and 40).
