Relationships as basic elements of learning and social integration of leaning and psychic pain. Defining the school community as the elective context of learning, the Authors show how that community can realize the true social integration of students with the help of their role partners. The Authors suggest a Bionian approach to learning, as growth, development and transformation of the whole person. This way of learning, exposed also in Meltzer’s theories, is different from superficial knowledge based on merely factual information. The learning process is considered as the result of intersubjective relationships, as in Loewald’s model of the mind, Bion’s and Meltzer’s theories of thought and mental suffering, and Meltzer’s theory of emotional functions. Therefore, through active relationships at school it is possible to learn and reach social integration if the teacher is capable of leading the "relational dance" by adopting professional reverie.

Keywords: Social integration, learning, emotional functions, storytelling, professional reverie
