The authors analyze the relationship between genetic alterations found in some types of epilepsy and cognitive deficits and learning disorders, concluding that the interaction between some molecular mechanisms genetically determined and environmental factors can explain the physiopathology of alterations in the development of the central nervous system in childhood. It may be responsible for some forms of epilepsy associated to the impairment of the cognitive functions.
