Western sociological thought has conceived individuals as a product of modernity. The individual category is at the core of the transition from the traditional social order to the modern one. Taking as a subject of analysis a set of sociological studies about the condition of young adults living in urban areas in Morocco, we investigate their transition to adulthood as a strategy of individualisation. The question is: how do we think about individual category in a society where modernisation processes taking different paths to produce social change - as compared to occidental dynamics? The moroccan young adult becomes an example of a distinctive way of being an individual- in-society by linking together traditional legacy and modern necessities.
