Grown up to become the industrial settlement with the highest workers concentration of the capital city, under the Fascist regime Breda armament factory sustained a wide and varied labour demand, covered by workers of diverse professional extraction, young apprentices and women belonging to all age brackets. The A. outlines the main features of labour composition at Breda drawing on the factory records so as to understand the dynamics of manpower recruitment, the modifications in the technical composition of the labour force due to the changes affecting the productive process, the effects of industrial mobilization on contractual stability, job mobility and factory discipline. The investigation thus differs from the traditional studies on the working class movement of the capital city, since it examines topics and times so far generally neglected.
