The maritime logistics industry has been historically considered an unstable and risky sector leading to irregular economic and financial performance for maritime logistics firms, due to the volatility of freight rates, the imbalance of container flows and the magnitude of investments required in vessels and port facilities. Although the relative impact of corporate strategy on firm profitability is an issue of considerable scientific and managerial interest, insights into contemporary issues in maritime logistics economics and strategy still tend to be limited
