The essay examines the strategies of urban regeneration developed in recent years in Linz, a major center of the iron industry, describing its transformation from City of steel to City of Media Arts. European Capital of Culture 2009 and Creative City in the UNESCO network, today Linz is a laboratory for experimenting with new forms of coexistence between industry and city, looking for urban "creative" models and environmentally sustainable settlements.
