The Guidelines issued by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research in 2013, concerning school buildings, draw and present a new philosophy in the organization and functioning of the school space. The document proposes, among others, a strong interaction between civic and educational uses, transforming the school building into a true community centre with strong implications on its programmatic setting and urban design. The interview with Laura Galimberti, an architect who was appointed as coordinator of the strategic unit established by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers in order to boost the various financing programs, takes stock of the application, the evolution and of the critical issues that emerged along the implementation of the programs launched between 2014 and 2017, both from a legislative and an operational point of view.
