The present contribution aims to lay the foundations for research activities in order to practice social theatrical workshops that have as macro-objective the health protection and promotion. Firstly, the characterising features of social theatrical workshops as privileged contexts for conducting research are described. Then, the paper provides an epistemological analysis of the concept of health and its promotion, followed by the description of the health dimensions associated with the living environment. Finally, what has been previously discussed converges into tracing a path of research. Key references are: a) identifying "health goal(s)" in terms of functional ability; b) adopting the life-course approach, as per life stages; c) considering the relationships with the natural environment as domain for health protection and promotion, in addition to the bio-psycho-social model’s dimensions.

Keywords: health promotion; theatre; social theatrical workshops; functional ability; life-course approach; living environment.
