Much later than in Anglo-Saxon countries, interest in video games is also rapidly growing in Italian academic circles, as demonstrated by some recent conferences and publications. The article reflects on the current interdisciplinary debate that has emerged, and takes into account the potential approaches to the video game medium from a historical perspective. It focuses, in particular, on Public History and video games as effective tools for the transmission of historical knowledge (teaching included); the representation of community histories and memories; and the knowledge of historical and cultural heritage.
