Through the examination of scientific literature, statistical data and qualitative research, this study focuses on the topic of accessibility in the school environment, and it aims to answer two research questions: what is the state of accessibility in Italian schools? For which reasons do school buildings continue to be poorly accessible? The research shows that Italian schools continue to lack accessibility, even in a territory that, at a regulatory level, appears to be pioneering in this field. The reasons for this gap seem related both to a lack or incorrect application of the rules, and to the avoidance of students with disabilities.
Keywords: accessibility; disability; schools; barriers; Italy; Trentino.
