After a long season in which the categories of risk and uncertainty have dominat-ed the panorama of social sciences, in recent years the theme of the future has imposed itself in the sociological debate. As evidence of this, aspirations, seen as a fruitful tool for the operationalization of future, have been configured as an indis-pensable dimension to be explored when studying young people. On the bases of the analysis of 30 life stories of university students collected in Naples, the contri-bution adopts career aspirations to questioning the relationship between inequality and future. It is highlighted how, despite the generalized difficulty of looking to "tomorrow", the capital of experience, situated in individual’s subjectivity, make the difference in the way young people develop their capacity to aspire more than the institutionalized cultural capital.
