The confluence of urban poverty and health inequalities is responsible for the diffusion of epidemics in informal settlements. In particular the situation is out of control in the African slums. Insufficient and inadequate policies have led to increasing diseases and poverty. Public policies to eradicate this concentrated disadvantage must be pursued rigorously, in order to avoid dramatic consequences for the city's future development prospects.
