SOCIOLOGIA E RICERCA SOCIALE

Fascicolo: 103 / 2014

The instructions given to interviewers in research institutes are often aimed at standardizing their behaviour, assuming that this can lead to comparable answers. However, in more recent methodological debates, the recognition of the interactional nature of the interview and the impossibility of standardizing the behaviour of interviewers has led scientists to call for a more flexible approach to how interview are conducted. This article presents the results of a study investigating the procedures put in place by the interviewers conducting telephone interviews and their compliance with the constraints of standardization. The results show strong deviations of the interviewers from the demands of researchers, only in some cases justified by the information obtained in the course of the interaction.

Exploring organic consumer preferences for dried pasta

Economia agro-alimentare

Fascicolo: 3 / 2023

Dried pasta is depicted as the most traditional and popular Italian food culture. Italy has the highest per capita pasta consumption worldwide, but lifestyle changes define new habits and trends in consuming this traditional Italian food. The present study aims to explore organic consumers’ knowledge, attitudes and preferences for dried pasta and, specifically, the relevance of organic and “ancient” durum wheat varieties. Results show limited knowledge of consumers about dried pasta characteristics and the relevance of extrinsic cues, especially those related to expected taste and local origin. Therefore, the most relevant claims for improving the communication strategy of dried pasta are identified. Companies should meet consumers’ preferences by increasing investments in the innovation of this staple food with a focus on improving production processes and packaging design with more effective front-of-pack communication. The findings provide insights into the pasta market, which may help organic companies to enter this new market and make their products more appealing to consumers.

The GAP Local Plan (of the Health Protection Board) provides for a self-help group aimed at families of gamblers. In fact, Gambling Disorder (DSM V) does not only directly involve people who have a gambling problem but also their family members and loved ones; emotionally, economically and socially. Furthermore, the discomfort of the individual often speaks of a group dynamic, of collective suffering. In families the transaction is circular (Selvini, 1975).The Self Mutual Help group created is open to all citizens, as well as to family members of people who have already turned to the Addiction Service for a gambling problem.Self-help groups are based on the natural ability of human beings to be in relationship with each other and to support each other in times of difficulty and it is from these premises that this group also began. The article aims to recount, starting from the fundamentals of mutual self-help, the experience of the first AMA group aimed at family members of gamblers, promoted by the Addiction Service, in the Lodi area. The first observations can be useful for future years and to better develop an opportunity which has as its premise that of helping more and more people who find themselves facing a moment of difficulty. It is precisely the progressive discovery of gambling by family members that is traumatic, generating a climate of mutual distrust, cyclical experiences of illusions/disappointments, uncertainty that determines anxiety, fear and chronic stress (Capitanucci, 2012).The Auto Mutuo Aiuto group can help to emerge from isolation, increase solidarity, understand internal and external dynamics, stimulate new perspectives, bring out resources, feel capable and active. In the ecological-social approach, the family is seen not only as a possible part of the problem, but also and above all as a system open to the community, capable of exchanges and equipped with its own resources to be exploited.

Essentially derived varieties in the era of new breeding techniques

AGRICOLTURA ISTITUZIONI MERCATI

Fascicolo: 1-2 / 2019

The current study sets out to analyse the concept of "essentially derived variety" (EDV) envisaged by the plant variety protection regime when new breeding techniques (NBTs) are employed in the development of new plant varieties. The use of NBTs to develop new plant varieties has grown rapidly over the last years because of their ease of use and their high efficiency. NBT varieties are mono-parental and retain most of the genome of the initial variety, thus most of its essential characteristics. The problem arises when the initial variety used as the source of genetic variation is a variety protected by a plant variety right. In this case, the question is whether the EDV concept should apply to the second variety obtained by NBTs and what can break the EDV chain. It must be noted that the EDV concept has revolutionised the plant variety protection system since it introduced the principle of "limited dependence" as an exception to the general independence principle governing this system. Therefore, as it is an exception, it should be interpreted rigorously.

In Milan the debate about reconstruction after the Second World War, though influenced by local conditions, reflected most of the arguments and problems that were discussed all over Italy at the time. The protection and restoration of historic heritage was virtually limited to the most important monuments and works of art, whereas in Milan the need to preserve the town center and ancient quarters was not yet widely understood, due both to the lack of effective rules and regulations and to the lack of interdisciplinary dialogue between planners, architects and restoration specialists.
