Scambi intergenerazionali e cura delle persone anziane

PSICOBIETTIVO

Fascicolo: 3 / 2007

Scambi intergenerazionali e cura delle persone anziane ABSTRACT: Relationships between generations have evolved over time partly because of the increase in life expectancy. Family members provide an important part of community care for the elderly. Therefore it is important to understand the new model of communication trough which family solidarity towards the elderly is or is not expressed. The sociological approach allows an understanding of how intergenerational, intersubjective exchanges are embedded in the historical contexts of family obligations and loyalties. The therapist can refer to this, in order to identify the resources that the different members of the family can offer, to understand the importance of that demographic evolution on the family, and to acnowledge the effort made by the children for their parents. Key Words: Elderly, Family Solidarity, Intergenerational Intersubjective Exchanges.

Psicologia del sé e terza età

PSICOBIETTIVO

Fascicolo: 3 / 2007

Psicologia del sé e terza età ABSTRACT: In this paper the Authors have explored some specific core aspects of Heinz Kohut’s Psychology of the Self and a few post-kohutian developments, giving special attention to the theoretical and the clinical points of view. Then they have pinpointed some other contemporary theories, with which the Psychology of the Self has, in their view, an epistemological coherence. In the last part they have tried to demonstrate, through a few clinical vignette of patients treated by two eminent Psychologist of the Self (summarizing very positive clinical experience of rather successful psychotherapies), their shared firm belief that the point of view of SelfPsychology with its stress on empathy is particularly suitable to the psychotherapy of people in their third age. Key Words: Empathy, Self-Object, Attachment, Motivation, Intersubjectivity.

L'invecchiamento in una prospettiva sistemica ABSTRACT: Although again is usually defined as a biological involution, the systemic view allows u sto reach a more acute understanding of this complex phenomennon that i characterized by the inversion of transgenerational complementarities. We propose here a description of various major aspects concerning the incidence of gender and culture on aging, and the role of old people in various types of families. We also describe the mutual influences existing between elderly and family organi- sation and mythology. After a brief discussion on the major features of old age as stage of the family life cycle, we move to some psychopathological difficulties and underline their relational aspects. Psychological interventions with paediatric patients affected by serious illness: a review of empirical studies about effectiveness ABSTRACT: In the last twenty years, psychological interventions by different health workers have spread in paediatric hospitals. More recently, the psychological and medical trend towards evidence based intervention models has induced the need to define models and interventions in the area of psychological distress. In this paper, we discuss the main areas of research within serious paediatric illness and present a review of the empirical studies on the effectiveness of psychological interventions published in the last thirty years. This review shows that the effectiveness of psychological interventions in serious paediatric illness is still quite poor: some cognitive-behavior approaches have proved partially effective, while the results of individual psychodynamic therapy are still uncertain. Moreover, most studies suffer from many methodological limits, and the large variability in the way studies are performed and documented makes comparison between them very difficult.

Il consumo alcolico in giovani valdostani: uno studio qualitativo

PSICOLOGIA DELLA SALUTE

Fascicolo: 3 / 2007

Alcohol consumption among young people in Aosta Valley, North Italy: a qualitative study ABSTRACT: The study explores some aspects of risky behavior in alcohol consumption in the AostaValley territory (North-western Italy) in a sample of youth aged 18 to 25 years. Alcohol is one of the most widely used psychoactive substances in the western world, with young people being the group most at risk to develop alcohol-related problems. The main aim is to study the influence of social norms and of the regional territory culture on juvenile alcohol consumption. Six focus groups were set up by selecting participants according to gender, occupational status (workers/students), area of residence (high/middle/low valley). By means of a qualitative analysis some categories of phenomenon description were identified. They were analyzed based on the variables utilized to recruit participants. Main results show that alcohol consumption is a cultural practice well rooted in the Aosta Valley territory and ruled by implicit norms that are handed down from generation to generation. Socialization and fun are its main functions. Females drink smaller amounts than males and especially when they are with the latter. Ways of consumption are different in the areas investigated, while no differences have been found between workers and students.

Antecedents of sporting activity in adolescence: the role of intentions and self-efficacy perceptions in the HAPA model process view ABSTRACT: The regular practice of physical activity contributes to increase young people’s physical, psychological and social well-being (see Donizzetti, 2008 for a review). However, notwithstanding the recognition of its protective role for the health, there is a very high inactivity rate. Because of the difficulty in the passing from a sedentary to an active life-style and the maintenance of the latter, several studies analyzed the factors intervening in the different phases of the behaviour change process. Among the theorized models, the Health Action Process Approach (HAPA) by Schwarzer (1992) presents a dynamic framework of the process through which people decide to act, by assuming that this process implies the passing across some temporally and qualitatively distinct phases. A study was conducted involving a sample of 682 physically active adolescents. The purpose was to investigate the variables predicting sporting behaviour during the maintenance phase. According to the theorized hypothesis, the results illustrate that self-efficacy and the intention to increase physical activity predict sporting behaviour. Further, they show the existing of gender and attended class differences.

Comprensione e regolazione della rabbia in adolescenti sportivi e non sportivi

PSICOLOGIA DELLA SALUTE

Fascicolo: 3 / 2007

Understanding and regulation of anger in sports-active and non-sport active adolescents ABSTRACT: Within social constructivistic paradigm, emotions follow a series of regulatory principles according to the meaning to be attributed to elicited situations ranging from rules of behaviour (intensity of expression), anticipated progress and development and finally from rules of attribution or criteria of legitimacy regarding social value systems in which emotions are expressed (Averill, 1982; Armon-Jones, 1986; Harrè, 1986). This study analyses the impact of socialisation processes linked to sport activities (sporting context) on anger regulation in a group of adolescents. The effects of gender and socialcultural level are also examined. Forty-nine adolescents from Rome, aged from 11 to 14, took part in the research. Each of the participants was given: five emotigene scenarios (elicitant pictures of emotional aspects related to injustice and frustration) (D’Urso, 2001) in a version adapted for adolescents during the pilot phase of this study. Regarding the differences between sporting and non-sporting adolescents and between males and females, several interesting outcome emerged. In short, the sporting group demonstrated a greater capacity to modulate the expression of anger compared to the nonsporting group. With respect to gender, the girls showed a greater propensity than the boys for expressing their anger directly.
