Living Spina 3 - Spina 3 is the old district of Turin steel production, it is an area of more than 1 million square metres, which, over the past fifteen years, has gone through a transformation process that radically reversed the relationship between public and private properties, in favour of the first ones. The outcome appears to be a space where it was possible to play freely with its elements, but where, at the end, it was generated a hard space, where the tracks of the person who live there are struggling to settle. The house, built from the market so rigidly and traditionally, became a symbol of the common choice to live in the new Turin.

Living Borgo Rossini - Borgo Rossini is a geographical and social enclave, characterized by changes which are not clearly visible, and defined by a sort of immobility. It’s possible to observe the presence of an artisan class that disappeared elsewhere and a way of living bounded to the work, in its various forms. The integration of the large number of immigrants that lives in the area also takes place through the work, as a condition. There is a strong relationship between dwellings and jobs, that doesn’t become promiscuity, but remains adjacency.

Living corso Vercelli - Corso Vercelli is in «Barriera di Milano», a neighbourhood having a worker past, and from time immemorial being a welcoming area for new populations. Living here is based on cohabitation forms between the old and the new populations, according to which legal and illegal practices define new ways of space appropriation. A strongly deep-rooted local pride withstands changes. The cohabitation works with a certain degree of alienation, and only defining safe distances, going beyond the rhetoric about tolerance and integration.

Living the Olympic Village - This study presents the outcomes of a survey on living the Olympic Village in Turin, started in November 2007, positioning them around two main conceptual images, par life or living like within a park, and reversal between inside and outside in the living practices. Starting from these two images, and from the issues and problems connected to them, it is possible to describe living in the Olympic Village as a quiet living.

Introduction. Quantity and stillness: the ideological speech about living - Nowadays living practices represent a field of investigation on at least two levels. On a substantive level, as cities are consistently changing and the living happens to be at the centre of this change. On a ideological level, as the living becomes a field where to affirm a dialogue that has removed conflict and disputes in favour of a pacified view. This introduction explains the reasons for a research about living practices in Turin, from a reconsideration of the two levels. It indicates the places and forms of the investigation, and it closes on a concept of living as a silent production of places. Field selections, methodological orientations and results, although expressed in a schematic form, should allow to place the contributions that follow on cases investigated by the research.
