Financial communication has been studied from a variety of perspectives, largely focusing on features, determinants and outcomes of specific kinds of documents and disclosures. This paper reviews prior literature on the topic with particular regard to research methods in order to identify opportunities for further research. In the light of these open questions, a systemic approach is suggested for future studies on financial communication. According to this perspective, the paper shifts the focus from the analysis of specific messages and documents to the study of financial communication policies and strategy, which result from the interactions of specific choices and elements. To investigate the topic, it proposes the adoption of the case study research strategy and discusses its potential.

Opioid prescribing in Italy remains cautiously conservative, with national data showing stable and comparatively low use of medium-potency opioids relative to other European countries.
Migrants and ethnic minority groups, however, display increased vulnerability to substance use disorders due to linguistic, cultural, and religious barriers that hinder access to and continuity of care.
The case concerns a 19-year-old North African male presenting with a severe iatrogenic opioid use disorder involving tramadol, oxycodone, and benzodiazepines, accompanied by detailed self-monitoring of substances, dosages, routes, and psychoactive effects.
His tramadol use, initially therapeutic, rapidly evolved into complex experimental practices informed by online psychonautic resources, producing atypical euphoria and sensory distortions even at standard doses.
Family opposition, rooted in strict religious norms, significantly interfered with treatment, leading to compromised methadone adherence, suspected diversion, and eventual relapse with periods of homelessness.
Cultural tension intensifi ed during Ramadan, a period associated with autonomous modifi cations of oral medications.
The subsequent transition to long-acting injectable buprenorphine provided a culturally acceptable alternative, enhancing adherence and clinical stability.
Pharmacogenetic considerations, particularly the higher prevalence of CYP2D6 ultrarapid metabolizers in North African populations, may have contributed to the heightened psychoactive responses and misuse risk.
Overall, the case illustrates the necessity of integrating cultural, religious, and pharmacogenetic factors into individualized treatment strategies to improve engagement and long-term outcomes.

Cash holding and firm value: a meta-analysis

ESPERIENZE D'IMPRESA

Fascicolo: 2 / 2015

The paper presents a meta-analysis between cash holdings and firm value. Referring to a sample of 290 studies, the results show that the holding of cash leads to an increase in firm performance. Moreover, the study finds that the relationship resulted moderated by several factors. In particular, the positive effect of cash reserves is amplified when the value of the firm is measured by a proxy of market value, when studies refer to recent years and when firms operate in specific institutional contexts. On the contrary, the effect is reduced in the firms with low growth opportunity, in published studies and in those which employ econometric techniques that control for endogeneity problems. .

In case of harm to consumers or excessive prices caused by market power a firm can be forced to reduce the price. The main ways in wich this can be implemented are four: fixed cash, per cent discount, fixed monetary discounts, coupons. These remedies are not indifferent in terms both of producer incentives and impact on consumer welfare. The remedies, besides an income effect can also cause a substitution effect. Cash remedy causes only an income effect but has a high transaction cost. Coupons, besides the income effect, cause a substitution effect too. So, in terms of social welfare cash remedy seems preferable to coupons. Discounts can be preferable to cash as they allow transaction cost saving. However, discount remedy, besides the income effect, causes also a substitution effect. Overall, the preference among the different remedies needs an accurate economic assessment of both transaction costs of different remedies and their effects (income and substitution). When the harm evaluation is difficult and the harm variance is high it seems socially preferable a simultaneous use of cash and coupons remedies, allowing the consumer to choose the remedy. The simultaneous use of cash and coupons allows the choice (between the two) by the harmed consumers and makes it easier the equivalent between paid damage by the producer and the customer harm. As a result, the producer has a higher incentive to choose a more efficient level of precaution to reduce harm. Furthemore, the customer’s free choice between cash and coupons allows preference revelation making easier the solution of the problems relative to the transaction costs to evaluate harm.

Fascicolo: 4 / 2016
