Aiutare le donne in gravidanza e le neomamme a trovare il giusto equilibrio tra l’assunzione di responsabilità e di tempo per sé in un periodo così bello, ma anche così delicato, come quello della gravidanza e del post partum, è l’obiettivo di questo libro. Attraverso la condivisione di conoscenze basate sull’evidenza scientifica ed esercizi pratici, le autrici forniscono spunti di riflessione e consigli utili per imparare a regolare le proprie emozioni e a gestire lo stress della gravidanza e del periodo successivo alla nascita del proprio piccolo.

L’autore propone una riflessione sulla nozione di scala per innovare le relazioni disciplinari tra architettura, urbanistica, pianificazione del territorio e del paesaggio. Si sostiene che un’interpretazione della multiscalarità come lente interpretativa dei fenomeni urbani e come strumento di previsione - alla luce di un’attenzione crescente per l’ecologia e il paesaggio - divenga un riferimento ineludibile per ripensare il progetto urbanistico contemporaneo.

Interior design is less and less reduced to the mere physical component of space and is instead increasingly projected towards an ‘environmental system’ made up of space, services, communication, and technology. The book highlights the close interconnections between the design of spaces, the creation of services, the application of communication systems, and the exploitation of technologies, allowing us to reveal the tensions and interactions that are unleashed depending on the prevalence of one or another design discipline and the scale at which they take place.

In the last two centuries, clinical interest in the phenomenon of trauma-related dissociation has waxed and waned. From the time of Pierre Janet, various concepts have been proposed to describe this dissociation. Other concepts proposing psychological divisions as part of normal personality have also been applied to trauma-related dissociation. Taking trauma-related dissociation as a point of departure, this paper examines the various constructs used to denote normal or pathological subsystems of the personality as to their validity in explaining the divisions occurring within an individual following traumatizing experiences. A number of constructs, falling within the overarching categories of ‘states’, ‘personalities’, and ‘complexes’ are considered. Each is discussed in terms of its strength and weaknesses using, among other things, Pierre Janet’s hierarchy of degrees of reality as a yardstick. In contrast to these historical constructs, each with its limitations, the contemporary theory of Structural Dissociation of the Personality proposes an optimal concept for describing ‘trauma-related dissociation’.

Multiple citizen identities of the Chinese in the Chinese diaspora - On the basis of the debate on the citizenship notions developed in the literature, the author argues that political explanations per se are insufficient in understanding the complexities of the issue of national identity among many nationals today. With reference to the Chinese Diaspora, and in the broader context of the globalization, the necessity of a cultural and/or intercultural perspective is supported. This perspective further implies the need to adopt a language perspective in understanding the cultural (or intercultural) identities.

L'articolo esplora il ruolo che giocano le identità sindacali e gli attori locali nelle scelte di localizzazione produttiva delle multinazionali dello shipping, un tema poco esplorato in letteratura. Dallo studio di caso emerge che l'identità sindacale dei lavoratori portuali e l’intraprendenza degli attori locali hanno giocato un ruolo chiave nella scelta di “de-localizzare” il traffico portuale di due grandi armatori. L'articolo contribuisce inoltre ad approfondire le ragioni dell'ascesa del porto commerciale di La Spezia nelle classifiche di movimentazione degli scali marittimi attraverso l'utilizzo di una metodologia all’intersezione tra storia sociale e sociologia del lavoro con interviste a élite, documenti d'archivio e analisi dei giornali.

The book offers an overview of the economic research dealing with the process of firms’ internationalisation and the impact of multinationals’ activity on local competitiveness, by presenting a set of theoretical and empirical contributions characterised by high methodological rigour and scientific excellence. This volume is the fifth of an ongoing series that aims at handing down to the readers the wealth of theoretical and empirical contributions stemming from DIG Lunch Seminars.

In a recent model Markusen and Venables (1999) describe the conditions under which foreign direct investments (FDI) can act as a catalyst for local industrial development. We apply this framework to the case of Poland, allowing for the entry of multinationals in both intermediate and consumption goods industries. We check these hypotheses against empirical evidence, exploring agglomeration patterns of multinational and domestic firms at the regional level, and constructing an econometric model able to measure the interactions between the two classes of firms.Consistent with the theoretical predictions, we find robust evidence for the idea that multinationals may promote local industrial development through the generation of backward and forward linkages.
