Questo volume esplora il ruolo crescente della comunicazione multimodale nel marketing e nei media digitali, proponendo una riflessione teorica e metodologica sull’integrazione sinergica di modi diversi. A partire da una prospettiva interdisciplinare, l’opera analizza come le componenti visive, verbali e sonore si combinino nei contenuti digitali – dai social media ai formati audiovisivi – per generare risposte attitudinali e comportamentali.

The use of Virtual Reality (VR) finds more and more useful applications in rehabilitation area. We have applied it in a controlled pilot study for cognitive rehabilitation. Twelve subjects over 65 years old with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) have followed a multimedia memory-training programme. The results have underlined an improvement of the cognitive decline indices in the experimental group and this improvement has been observed also after a 1 year follow-up. Our findings suggest that this rehabilitating programme can back other strategies aimed at reactivating memory trough cerebral plasticity, if enough neuronal pathways are saved from the pathological process. Da tempo il tema della mobilità sociale e spaziale interessa discipline come la sociologia, la geografia e l’economia. I processi migratori, dall’altro, sono diventati un oggetto specifico della ricerca scientifica. Tuttavia entrambi si sono sviluppati all’interno delle società industriali moderne e appare lecito dubitare del fatto che essi possano ancora rappresentare in modo adeguato la condizione di individui e di gruppi sociali post-moderni che devono organizzare la propria vita in contesti socio-spaziali altamente flessibili. L’Ufficio Federale per l’Edilizia e la Progettazione Regionale tedesco (Bundesamt für Bauwesen und Raumordnung) ha recentemente dedicato un numero speciale della rivista "Informazioni sullo Sviluppo Spaziale" (Informationen zur Raumentwicklung) al tema della multilocalità. Il termine sta assumendo sempre più importanza nel dibattito internazionale al fine di descrivere alcuni tratti specifici della vita quotidiana postmoderna. In questo saggio l’autore ripercorre i passaggi salienti del dibattito sul tema in corso nell’ambiente scientifico di lingua tedesca. In un primo momento, descrivendo il significato attribuito al concetto di multilocalità e agli elementi che lo differenziano da quelli di mobilità e di migrazione. In seguito, mostrandone i campi di applicazione di maggiore interesse per la ricerca scientifica.

L’articolo si propone di investigare limiti e opportunità dell’uso dell’inglese da parte di storici e altri cultori di materie umanistiche italiani. Esso sottolinea i vantaggi del multilinguismo in ambito accademico, ma evidenzia anche come esso non combaci ne-­ cessariamente con l’anglicizzazione dell’accademia italiana e internazionale. Al con-­ trario, l’articolo conclude auspicando la promozione dell’uso anche di altre lingue vei-­ colari nella comunicazione scientifica, in modo tale da favorire rapporti più equi tra di-­ verse tradizioni di ricerca.

For many consumers, sustainability attributes are a relevant consideration concerning the purchase decision. However, as more food labels enter the retail market it is becoming increasingly difficult for consumers to evaluate the underlying meaning of these labels. The most common labels communicating sustainable values tend to be binary. However, many attributes, such as animal welfare, are of a continuous nature. One solution to communicate differentiated information about process or product standards is by using multi-level labels, which indicate various levels of standards. However, while multi-level labels may help consumers realize the differences in production or process qualities, they may also cause confusion since they convey more complex information. Therefore, the impact of multi-level labels on consumers’ comprehension remains unclear. The primary objective of this paper is to test whether consumers can easily comprehend a multi-level labelling approach by using the case of animal welfare standards. This paper will also assess whether a multi-level label could be an effective tool to communicate information about standards and enhance consumers’ willingness to pay. The results show that when an explanation about the levels of the label is provided, there is an increasing willingness to pay for products with higher standards. Hence, a multi-level label can work if information is provided and is thus an adequate tool to communicate sustainable and ethical values.

The city of Paris has launched in 2014 an ambitious PB (participatory budgeting) experience of about 100 million euros per year, with a third of the budget dedicated to low-income neighbourhoods. Focusing on these areas, the study aims to investigate the potential of the Paris PB to address social inequalities and be inclusive of the most marginalized social groups. Findings indicate the need for several changes in the structure and implementation of the process, while the distribution of PB projects in low-income areas appears to be affected by their ongoing gentrification.

Multifunctionality and Rural Development in Africa: An Evaluation at the Household Level - This work offers an interpretation of the role that multifunctionality plays in the policies that sustain rural development. Assuming as a reference the livelihood approach, we analyse multifunctionality within a framework which differs from the usual Wto negotiations. We reappraise its significance as a variable that reinforces the livelihood strategies of the rural households. In terms of policy design we analyse the costs of the secondary services and the variables that allow for their reduction. A quantitative evaluation is then carried out on the basis of an LP model taking a multifunctional farm in Africa. The results obtained are that: multifunctionality is very costly; most of the private costs of multifunctionality are due to constraints on specialisation in production; both coupled and de-coupled payment sustain multifunctionality but in different ways; technological progress is a key variable for economic sustainability.

Promuovere l’agricoltura sociale implica la necessità di rivedere il modo in cui le imprese, le istituzioni, e la società civile si rapportano nei processi di creazione e distribuzione di beni pubblici. La produzione di tali beni non può essere ricondotta a capacità di singoli attori, ma dipende dalla capacità delle istituzioni e del sistema territoriale di legittimare, supportare, e connettere innovazioni isolate che già si muovono sulla pratica al fine di valorizzare la valenza pubblica dell’operato. Il quadro di istituzionalizzazione delle pratiche di agricoltura sociale si intreccia a pratiche promosse da aziende agricole e altre realtà, che spesso vanno oltre quanto previsto dal quadro istituzionale. Attraverso un focus sul caso altoatesino, il contributo esplora continuità e contraddizioni tra l’agricoltura sociale istituzionalizzata e la pratica mettendo in luce processi di risignificazione sociale dell’agricoltura e potenzialità di sviluppo territoriale.

Multi-functionality vs. food sovereignty? - This paper examines the conditions under which the two strategic concepts of "multi-functionality" and "food sovereignty" have emerged, refocusing the development narrative toward a politics of sustainability. Both multi-functionality and food sovereignty represent sustainable alternatives to neo-liberal political economy. The author argues about the necessity of a paradigmatic shift regarding the meaning of human development in order to revalue food and agriculture as foundations of civilization, in the epistemological sense, and as vectors both of social and ecological sustainability and of public health.
