The aim of this introductory article is to shed light on the complexities and ambiguities of the definitions, uses, and categorizations of what is termed ‘racism’ or alternatively, in a more flexible and protean manner, ‘othering’. However, while racism and otherness have been forged within the history of modernity, coloniality and capitalism, the current concreteness and linguistic use of these notions is a matter of discussion also within post-colonial societies and emerging geo-powers. Communities of people who have struggled against western discriminations in the past are today faced with similar problems within their societies due to the inter-twining among local and distinctive forms of inequality, segregation, and othering. In questo numero di MondiMigranti intendiamo riflettere sul tema dell’eurocentrismo, del suo superamento storico, delle sue conseguenze nelle rela-zioni interculturali della vita quotidiana, dei suoi intrecci con l’attuale crisi di identi-tà dell’Europa e di insorgenza a macchia di leopardo di nuove forme di nazionali-smi. La crisi di identità dell’Europa, al di là di contingenti conflitti di interesse tra nazioni, coinvolge la discussione che sin dal Novecento si è aperta sulla cultura moderna, la sua storia, le sue relazioni oltre una visione "West and the rest".

New Italians. Forms of identification emerging from students with migrants origins in Italian higher schools - This article discusses the future of the second and third generations in Italy by developing a generational perspective. Through the adoption of a constructionist theoretical approach, informed by works on globalization and the new social movements, it tries to advance beyond the limits of theories and observations at time of fordism, based on concepts of either assimilation or integration. The paper presents an on-going research on students of foreign origins who attend high schools in Milan. By doing so, it focuses on the specificity of the Italian situation and it highlights new and innovative forms of identification, as they are changing alongside current ideas of belonging, membership, citizenship and difference. Hence, the actual experience of the second and third generations, and their new forms of identification, emerge as a useful starting point to understand some peculiarities of the contemporary world. Le seconde generazioni nate dall’immigrazione vivono una sorta di doppia “trans-culturalità”: la trans-culturalità dei giovani si unisce spesso alla trans-culturalità esistenziale di chi, sospeso tra il mondo dei bambini e il mondo degli adulti, fatica a trovare un senso a un vivere che spesso diventa sopravvivere. Il volume cerca di individuare delle possibili chiavi di lettura in grado di offrire un valido panorama conoscitivo delle molteplici traiettorie di vita delle seconde generazioni.

Una panoramica delle dinamiche, delle componenti e delle culture del movimento alterglobal in Europa. Le ricerche, realizzate in Francia, Regno Unito, Spagna, Italia, Portogallo e Turchia, hanno cercato di individuare le più rilevanti caratteristiche comuni relative ai percorsi di costruzione dei significati culturali e politici prodotti dal movimento alterglobal, e di mettere in evidenza peculiarità nazionali che influiscono nel determinare le evoluzioni delle azioni su scala locale.
