This essay is a personal reflection on the complexities of migrant identity. It is an attempt to chart nomadic identity by assembling fragments of my personal experience, connecting different ideas, images, and landscapes, and concluding in the form of a travel journal. I refer to the current theory on the topic and to the images and narratives of cosmopolitanism that are circulating in our cultural discourse, to provide a discussion of the stories that emerge where place and citizenship intersect. Furthermore, I discuss the role played by memory in shaping the ‘tension’ in the identity of the migrants, between memories of the place of origin and the life in the place of residence. Ultimately, I place myself as the privileged interlocutor of this conversation that reflects on my ever-changing personal definition of my hybrid cultural identity, both on an intellectual and emotional level.
