The article analyses the process of defining the Local Agenda 21 in Italy; in particular, it focuses on two examples of "good practices": the Provincia di Torino and Provincia di Modena Local Agendas 21. This document is an instrument for a sustainable planning aimed at creating a Local Action Plan, with the support of the local community, involving many stakeholders in a decision process. The Local Action Plan draws guidelines for the territorial development of an area; its implementation is continuously checked, allowing feedback processes.
