Salvatore Geraci illustrates, through the analyses of different laws, the most important steps of social and health policies in Italy. He believes that this process started under a general unawareness. In time, we became more and more aware of immigrants social and health needs and we reached, recently, a coherent policy on this subject. From a situation of emergency we have now reached a situation characherized by promotion and recognition of this right. An integration between social and health policies is necesseary because, as many epidemiological reports show, social vulnerabily is still the most important risk factor for immigrants health. Moreover, their gradual inclusion in the social, economic and cultural system, represents the best way to promote health and wellbeing in the community.
