The present work intends to outline some aspects of the theoretical con-structs used in the literature to explain the choice of being or not being pa-rents, hypothesizing personal and social motivations. Couple relation is a key aspect in understanding the theoretical construct of parenthood and the choice of becoming parents given that it is considered one of the powerful relational organizers. The construction of one’s own position within adult intimate relationships has been made harder by the fragmentation of family models. The latter outline new ways of becoming and being parents, like the often paraded choice of not wanting to be parents, which expresses a new way of being a couple, at the same time shaping family life cycles that are increasingly more articulated compared to normative ones.
