Whoever gets to know J. Tronto’s book immediately feels her deep involvement in the issue she studies. Analyzing the relationship between politics and ethic from the point of view of the ethic of care, Tronto sheds light on a rather disturbing truth: the actors of care are not only those who implement treatments but also those who undergo them and who should maintain a full autonomy besides the temporary dependence due to their illness. Just like in the logic of gift, in the ethic of care it is necessary to understand the links between those who cure and those who receive the cures. On top of this we should take into consideration the sphere of expectations and confirmations, obstacles and bias, emotions and human needs.
