Psychotherapy training at the university of bologna psychiatric residency: notes from a history After a brief introduction by Pier Francesco Galli, the author narrates the history of the psychotherapy training program he organized since the early 1970s at the Psychiatric Residency Training Program of the University of Bologna, Italy. This psychotherapy training, that at times involved the entire personnel of the psychiatric institute, was characterized by methods of Balint groups, reading groups, operative groups according to Enrique Pichón Riviere’s technique, theatre plays in which classical clinical cases of the history of psychiatry and psychoanalysis were dramatized, intensive group and individual supervision, and community psychiatry that in those years was beginning to be implemented. The aim of this training, that today has been terminated, was the transmission of a psychiatric culture centered around the patient-therapist interpersonal relationship and the group work dynamics. [KEY WORDS: psychotherapy training, university, community psychiatry, theatre representation of clinical cases, group work]
