Andare dallo psicologo: tipi, tratti, personalità degli utenti di psicologia The paper introduces original data collected from a sample, representative of the adult Italian population, of 2.138 persons. Subjects were asked items about many behaviours, values and personality traits. They were asked also if in the arc of their life they had ever consulted "a psychologist (or similar)". Data show that psychologists’ clients are approximately a fifth of Italian population. Compared to Italians the users are, in greater measure: women, of age between 30 and 40 years, of upper-middle culture, not-married, without sons, divorced, employees and professionals. In values terms, they are: clearly the more politically leftist and engaged in general, the less religious, less identified with their Italian or European identity; with a strong emphasis on intellectual and autonomy values, with a reduced attention to religious, success, eating and body values. In terms of personality traits (assessed by Itapi Tests), the psychologists’ customers are characterized, always compared to the average adult population, by: greater vulnerability and greater imagination; smaller defensivity and minor conscientiousness. They are more interested to shopping as a distraction and to reading. They stretch towards: hypochondria, music, environmentalism, worries for eating, bio-vegetarianism. They believe, more than the average, in many forms of animism-spiritualism- esoterism, and tolerance.ù
