The Author re-reads an essay of 1999, in which Massimo D’Antona focused, on one hand, on the meaning(s) of article 4 of the Italian Constitution and, on the other hand, on the influences and implications generated by European law and employment policies. The Author examines the different contents of the "right to work" (such as freedom to choose work; right to public interventions to reduce unemployment; right to perform work) and the connections between Italian and European law.
