Clinica di uno stato di de-mentalizzazione. (introduzione di Daniela Morelli) - Theoretical basis and clinical illustrations of the psychoanalytic psychotherapy of psychosomatic states by the School of Paris (see: L’investigation psychosomatique, 1964, by P. Marty; M. de M’Uzan, Ch. David) are here presented. This approach, rooted in Freud’s work, encourages the therapist to listen to the patient in a specific way that underlines the need to understand and to trace potential causal links in the material presented. The purpose of this model is to understand not only "how the patient works with the therapist" but also "why the patient works in a specific way". This is called by Smadya "the psychoanalytic investigation". The concept of "de-mentalization" is central in this theory, as a reduced capacity to elaborate the conflicts and difficulties of one’s own psychic development. The failure of the psychic elaboration forces the Ego to a regression to a psychosomatic functioning.
