Regional Planning in Italy: an Overview of the Economic Literature - The paper contains (exposes) a brief overview on the scientific debate among Italian scholars since the 1960s on Regional Economic Planning, understood as socio-economic planning carried out by regional administrations. Aim of this work is to verify the Italian contribution to the wider international debate, developed in the same period and directed to advance the discipline both theoretically-methodologically and in its concrete implementation. The main conclusion reached is that Italian regionalists have induced during 1990s some Regions to adopt, at a higher government level and in a decidedly wider territorial context, the strategic planning model hitherto applied to urban and metropolitan areas in both Italy and abroad.

Keywords: Planning Policy and Models, Regional Development Policy.
