An interview with jacques lacan (1966) - In this interview to Paolo Caruso of November 1966, right after the publication of his Écrits, Jacques Lacan discusses the main aspects of his theoretical position. Among other things, Lacan deals with the following topics: the meaning of his "return to Freud", the issue of "reality principle", the reasons behind the complexity of his writing style, intersubjectivity, Sartre’s phenomenology, his opinions on other psychoanalytic schools (Melanie Klein, the neo-Freudians, North American ego psychology of Hartmann, Kris, and Loewenstein) and on authors such as Herbert Marcuse and Norman Brown, the problem of "logical time", his relationship with the International Psychoanalytic Association (IPA), de Saussure’s linguistics, Freud’s conception of drive (Trieb), Husserl’s philosophy, ethics, etc. This interview originally appeared on pp. 1-10 of issue no. 6/1968 of Psicoterapia e Scienze Umane, and it is the first presentation of Lacan’s ideas in Italian language.
