The commerce issues of the agri-food products between Poland and European Union, with particular considerations of the commerce with Italy

The following paper offers an economic analysis of the Polish agri-food sector before and after the accession of Poland in the European Union. The first part deals with the situation of the Polish enterprises - included the agro-food sector enterprises - after they entering into the Common Market and in the face of the globalisation processes. There are indicated the positive effects for the enterprises of the market opening as well as their weakness. Furthermore, the author formulates some challenges which will have to be faced by the agri-food sector and some chances which will have to be use by this sector. The second and the third part of the paper are dedicated to the analysis of the progress of the Polish agri-food commerce, respectively, in the first years after the accession of Poland in the European Union (second part) and in the more recent pe- riod - 2007-2008 (third part). There are presented detailed statistic datas regarding dynamics of the trade exchange of the various agri-food products. There are identificated the markets on which the Polish enterprises are very competitive. The fourth and last part of the paper shows the trade relationships in the agrifood sector between Poland and Italy. There are presented the dynamic as well as the structure of those relationships. In conclusion it is said that the probably loss of the competitive advantage of the Polish agri-food enterprises on the "conventional" markets (of commodities), will lead them in direction of the niche production, which means the quality production.
